Personal Narrative- My Near Drowning Experience

Have you ever had a moment in time that seems like minutes or hours even though it was only a few seconds? Have you ever seen everything before you play out in slow motion, where you are aware of everything around you, yet not knowing what was going on? I have, and as I look back on it, I feel very blessed and protected. On March 21, 1987, I decided to take a little swim in our swimming pool and almost drowned.

On that fateful day in March, I was a couple months shy of my third birthday. My family and I lived in New Mexico at the time and were renting a house with an outdoor in-ground pool. The day was beautiful. I was outside with my oldest sister Rachel and my father. Rachel was diligently reading curled up on a bench that sat against the house, and my father was mowing the backyard. My mother and my other sister were in the house. Off to one side of the house there was a group of large bushes. I was playing over there with one of her large cooking pots, off in my own little world. At one point while amusing and en...

Drowning in a Glass Half Empty Essay

- Drowning in a Glass Half Empty Wearily walking into the lobby of my residence hall, a group of my classmates gathered to embark on a pilgrimage through Poly Canyon. We meandered over to our rendezvous with our professor on a gravel road sided by a grove of eucalyptus trees rising up like a rib cage. I doubted that this was going to be anything like what Henry David Thoreau intended in his essay “Walking,” when he described walking as being “absolutely free from all worldly engagements.” If one frees oneself from worldly engagements, one may journey into mindfulness, a state of total awareness of being....   [tags: Personal Narrative Hiking Essays]

Essay on Grandpa and His Canoe

- Personal Narrative- Grandpa and His Canoe Smallville, USA is about thirty minutes from Nowhere, USA. Smallville is a small town for small town people. My grandfather was one of those small town people. He owned a small camp on a small lake near Smallville. Kosoag Lake. From what I remember of the historical facts I gathered from growing up, asking questions, and pretending to listen, Kosoag Lake was earth. The lake was a part of Native American land flooded out for God knows what reason. In essence, it is a man-made lake, and that is why it is clean and beautiful....   [tags: Personal Narrative Profile Essays]

Near-Drowning in Pediatric Patients Essay

- Introduction There are an estimated 8,000 deaths per year in the United States from drowning. Near-drowning occurs anywhere from 2-20 times more frequently (for estimated 16,000-160,000 events per year)7. The definitions for drowning and near-drowning have for the longest time been very confusing to understand. Recent health officials have attempted to resolve some of this confusion by redefining drowning as “the process of experiencing respiratory insufficiency or difficulty following a submersion or immersion in a body of liquid.” Near-drowning has also been redefined as “survival from a drowning event which involved impaired consciousness or water inhalation for 24 hours or more”2....   [tags: Nursing, Health Care]

A Sweet Dandelion Essay

- The boy brushes past her, not bothering to say sorry. He didn't want to speak to her, not even a mere word because he simply didn't want to speak to anybody at this point. She continued to walk, a grimace forming on her face. Just a year ago he would whisper sweet nothings in her ear, try to convince her to eat, and hang out with people. Now she doesn't even exist to his world, or so she thinks. Even if she no longer meant anything to him she knew she couldn’t be upset with him because he had a reason to feel that way....   [tags: personal narrative]

Personal Narrative - Lasting Love Essay

- Personal Narrative - Lasting Love I had never made biscuits and gravy before. The blessings of having a good cook as a Mom were abundant, but alas, I never did learn the many techniques that wonder woman possessed. My repertoire included: peanut butter cookies, a deliciously heated can of Pork n Beans, and Rice Krispie treats that were always too crunchy. But, Joseph wanted biscuits and gravy, so that is what Joseph got. His sister told me the recipe over the phone. Joseph had called her up long distance and gruffly demanded that she rattle off the legendary gravy recipe that their mother used to serve....   [tags: Personal Narrative Essays]

Personal Narrative- Holiday Baking Tradition Essay

- Personal Narrative- Holiday Baking Tradition Traditions are reflections of beliefs, superstitions and the personality of a family. I stop short of saying that they are the soul of a family because my family can no longer celebrate these traditions, but the spirit of my family continues to be an integral part of my life, despite the distance that sets us apart. The soul of my family remains unharmed from the miles that deprive us of the opportunity to celebrate common traditions. Regardless of how far we are apart, there is one tradition that can overcome any lengthy amount of distance, and that is my Aunt Millie’s Cinnamon-pecan rolls....   [tags: Personal Narrative]

Essay about Personal Narative- Tough Girl

- Personal Narative- Tough Girl She went to the land of Hollywood with a diamond wedding necklace hanging loosely from her neck like a noose before it gives its snapping goodbye. She went to the land of dreams with pride coloring her shadow; a haughty swing of her thick plait; and why not. Her name was Serina –she was named after a dream. Why not. I thought, though I cried the night before because she got the chance bestowed to her curvy hips, her white Colgate smile, her crystal blue eyes. And what about me....   [tags: Personal Narrative Writing]

Essay on Personal Narrative- Shoulder Injury

- Personal Narrative- Shoulder Injury I felt it pop, and pain engulfed my shoulder like ants cover an anthill that has been stirred with a stick. It made me angry, but it didn't help things to get mad. There was nothing I could do but try to recover in time to start over. Giving up wasn't an option. My junior year in high school, I went out for basketball. I liked it for a while, but when games started I was on JV. It was okay, but I was only getting to play two minutes per game. This didn't make me very happy....   [tags: Personal Narrative Essays]

Itch Essay

- Harry sometimes wonders what life would be like without this ever-present, maddening itch that's worked its way underneath his skin; pricking like light touches of needles that he has to constantly scratch at until he bleeds before it lessens into something faintly more manageable. He's only allowed a minute or so of relief when the feeling will come rearing back and thrum through his body until he sets out on a new patch of pristine skin. Wonders even now while he absentmindedly taps his caloused fingers against ugly, bright bruises that if he wasn't forced to trap himself in his bathroom, slumped against his tub in front of the mirror on the back of the door for hours on end due to this si...   [tags: personal narrative]
